Immunizations for Children and Adults

Vaccinations are crucial for safeguarding individual and community health by preventing the spread of infectious disease. Immunizations start at birth, are required for school entry and continue through ones lifespan. Prowers County Public Health and Environment offers immunizations for all ages and accepts most major insurance. If your child is uninsured, underinsured, on Medicaid, or Alaskan Native/American Indian they are eligible for state funded vaccine at no cost. No child will be turned away due to the inability to pay. For adults with no insurance, there are limited vaccines available at no cost depending on qualifications. Clinics are usually held twice a month. Please see calendar for clinic dates.

Please call 719.336.8721, option 1, to schedule an appointment or to check if you or your child are up to date on vaccinations.

Communicable Disease Investigation

Communicable diseases are contagious illnesses that can be spread from person-to-person, through contact with animals or insects, or through contaminated food or water. The Prowers County Public Health nurses work to detect, investigate, manage and prevent communicable diseases and disease outbreaks.

The Prowers County nurses may contact persons who have been ill to determine where they may have gotten sick and try to prevent further spread of illness. Staff investigate disease outbreaks in long-term care facilities, child care facilities, schools, restaurants and other group settings. They attempt to identify the cause of the outbreak and immediately put control measures into place.

The Prowers County nurses work closely with Animal Control to prevent the spread of rabies from wild animals to domestic animals and persons. One way this is done is by investigation into all animal bites and wild animal encounters. To report an animal bite or encounter please call 719.336.8721
